Leon, Mexico, Thursday 19, 2019 - Over 4,000 spectators flocked to the Domo de la Feria this Thursday to support the teams playing on the last day of the second round at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship in Leon, Guanajuato.

Egypt defeated Rwanda 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-19) in pool G of the second round at the Women’s U20 World Championship. Olive Nzamukosha was Rwanda’s best scorer with 14 points (10 spikes, 4 aces). For Egypt, Zeina Eleleny scored 10 points (8 spikes, 2 blocks), followed with 9 by Dalia Morshedy and Mayar Mohamed.

The local team had a great match against Serbia, one hour and 43 minutes of emotion that ended with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-18) victory for Mexico cheered on by the enthusiastic spectators. The third set was the most dramatic when Serbia led 7-0, but Mexico didn’t lose the wish to be undefeated in this second round. Fighting for every point, Mexico scored 96 and Serbia 83, with the best scorers Melanie Parra with 21 points for Mexico and Miljana Glusac, Jovana Mirosavljevic and Jovana Cvetkovic who scored 12 each for Serbia.

Argentina claimed a 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 18-25, 25-19) win against a tough Cuba, which made a number of unforced errors, a factor that accounted for the difference between the two teams. The South Americans were consistent, getting 45 points on spikes, 6 effective blocks and 13 aces. Martine Delucchi scored 15 points as Argentina’s best scorer. For Cuba, outside hitter Ailama Case finished with 24 points.
The last game this Thursday was for Peru who were totally committed in winning 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-29 and 25-22) against a team full of tradition like the Dominican Republic. Peru had some difficulties at the beginning with a 0-10 score in the first set. For the second set, they changed their mindsets and rapidly made their way back into the match. Madeline Guillen scored 20 points for the Dominican Republic and Aixa Vigil and Kiara Montes scored 14 points for Peru.
