Derya Cebecioglu: “Turkey knows how to deal with pressure”

Aguascalientes, Mexico, July 16, 2019 - Turkey began the second round of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship by beating Poland 3-1 (24-2, 25-23, 25-21, 25-18) in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Derya Cebecioglu, captain of Turkey: “Sometimes my team is not focused enough and we start to commit foolish mistakes, but we know how to deal with the pressure, battle and come back stronger, it is not the best way but we get things solved. I do not know how to justify ourselves for some miscommunications during the match, but we are really tired from playing five setters the whole preliminary round, physically and mentally we need to recover. When I make mistakes I speak to myself to go over my movements so I can make a mental image of what I need to improve.”

Sahin Catma, coach of Turkey: “The team lacked energy in the first set, we received well but our spikes needed to be more aggressive. Despite our bad performance, which I did not like at all, I am happy with the result. Our spikes were not clever enough. We have to concentrate more, we weren’t patient enough and our block-defence also has deficiencies. I am sure we will be better, my team is tired from the preliminary round having to play all matches in five sets.”

Julia Orzol, top scorer of Poland: “We had trouble closing the sets, our mistakes were too many. We should concentrate on our game and not on what our opponent is doing on their side of the court. As a team we tried our best, we have been preparing for the World Championship for two months and I am sure we can do much better. I am satisfied of being among the top eight teams in the world but not with our general results.”
