Leon, Mexico, July 13, 2019 - Turkey claimed the last match of the first day, this Friday after defeating 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 21-25, 15-7) Argentina, a very tough game with emotions and incredible plays in Leon, Mexico.
Derya Cebecioglu, captain of Turkey: “The first match of the tournament is always very important. In our group any team is within our reach, so that’s why this first victory is important. It was important that we fought till the end, even when the score was not favourable for us, we never gave up. I am so proud of my team.”
Sahin Catma, head coach of Turkey: “This was the first match of the World Championship and was very important for us. Argentina has a very good team, congratulations to them, they followed a good system. At the beginning we had some technical issues but that’s why it is important to learn and to prepare ourselves for the next match.”
Victoria Mayer, Captain of Argentina: “It was a hard start for us, Turkey is a great team. But this World Championship is just starting and we are going to keep our heads up. We are going to give our best for our country, Argentina. We are going to fight every point and every match.”
